Wolverhampton is one of Britain’s newest cities with magnificent buildings, churches and open spaces reflecting its history. The City Centre is an economic powerhouse employing tens of thousands of people mainly in the retail and service sector and it also has a large University presence.
The City Centre is a destination housing both big name stores and independent shops. Wolverhampton also has a thriving cultural and nightlife to offer with theatres, cinemas, art gallery and concert venues complemented by a host of clubs, bars, restaurants and cafés. Like many centres, it is facing the strategic and operational challenges which need to be addressed to ensure it remains competitive and serves the needs of all it users.
Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are still a relatively new but successful concept in the UK. Funded by local businesses and answerable to them a BID ensures that they are in the driving seat in promoting and enhancing the area’s offer, attractions and making sure the centre remains competitive. Having voted to establish a BID recently in Wolverhampton City Centre businesses now want someone for this new and exciting role, to drive forward their plans and aspirations. Marketing & promotion, making it feel safer and secure and more accessible will be key activities.
The BID Director will lead and manage the work of Wolverhampton BID in conjunction with the Board of Directors. Implementing the business plan to reflect today’s much more challenging economic environment and respond to competing centres on our doorstep will be a priority. With a budget of approximately £600,000 pa the successful candidate will also be responsible for operational management. In addition to this you will play a part in the strategic development of the City Centre.
This high profile and challenging post will suit someone with a real passion for making things happen. developing, juggling and delivering a variety of projects & services, maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels and making sure that successes are widely promoted and understood. A high level of interpersonal and communication, tact and diplomacy and project management skills are required. Experience in developing or manging a BID will be an advantage.
